I had been in my new job for about a year when I realized that we urgently needed to put in some standard processes to help us improve our work.
So after numerous conversations with my colleagues, we decided to change our business processes.
We started having daily meetings to discuss the various projects that we were working on and created a questionnaire for the clients to fill when they encountered various issues with the application.
At that time I didn’t know it but we were utilizing business analysis techniques. In preparing questionnaires for the clients we were utilizing elicitation skills, while the daily meetings fell under business analysis planning and monitoring.
Business analysis is all around us, it can be as simple as trying to decide what to make for dinner or as complex as implementing a software for a fortune 500 company.
It is the way you can make changes by defining needs and recommending solutions.
Though it is usually applied in the context of an organisation, it can also be applied to an individual.
I utilize the methodologies of business analysis in my everyday life and I am the better for it.
